As we try to integrate Cultural Heritage into our archaeological project, it’s worth seeing what others in the area are doing.

A group called the Swiss Initiative is dedicated to creating and supporting cultural projects in “conflict countries.” They have a project Karmakol, not far from our site (we’re near Karima).

In December, they held the Karmakol Festival with a lineup of performers: puppeteers, films, musicians, DJs, as well as workshops on music and film production.

Pretty cool! We’ve seen plenty of creative and artistic talent in El Kurru and it would be great to see some of that cross-pollinate with others in the area.
